What is your name and company name?
My name is John Welsh, and I am the Principal Consultant at Rivanna Bioprocess Solutions LLC based in Charlottesville, VA.
Thank you, John. It is very nice talking with you today.
Can you kindly provide us with your biography for our readers?
I am a biochemical engineer by training. After receiving my PhD from Stanford University, I accepted a position in the downstream bioprocess development organization at my previous company in New Jersey where I worked for over 11 years. A family move brought me to Virginia where I have been working as an independent consultant for the past two years. I help a variety of clients with CMC and bioprocessing challenges and have generally focused on early-stage development and new technology evaluation and implementation.
Thank you so much…
Do you remember how long you have been using the BioSolve Process in total?
I was trained on BioSolve Process during my time at my previous company and have been using the software for around ten years.
- What did you find the most attractive aspect of the BioSolve Process?
BioSolve Process is very useful for comparing different types of processes and facilities (batch vs. intensified, stainless steel vs. single-use, etc.) and bracketing different ranges of expected productivity. I find it most rewarding to take a client’s very novel idea for processing and be able to turn that into a quantitative process economic model.
- As an associate, what type of project do you use the BioSolve Process for?
In addition to the facility type comparisons and novel technology evaluations listed above, I have also used BioSolve Process for sensitivity analysis of platforms, understanding approaches for a multi-product facility, and estimating sustainability and environmental impacts.
- What three words would you use to describe the BioSolve Process?
Comprehensive, customizable, adaptable
